Mighty Servant Refit
Location: Grand Bahamas
Date: 2008
Value: £600,000
Mighty Servant 3 is a 27,000 ton semi‐submersible heavy lift ship. Its deck is 40 metres wide and 140 metres long.
Most of the cargo transported by Mighty Servant 3 are oil platforms and drilling industry related gear. When loading its mammoth burdens, the ship takes thousands of gallons of water into ballast tanks, sinking its cargo deck underwater. The cargo is floated into position, whereupon the Mighty Servant 3 will slowly pump out its ballast lifting the deck up to sailing position.
On 6th December 2006 Mighty Servant 3 sank in 62 metres of water near Angola, while offloading a drilling platform. After 5 months of resting on the seabed it was salvaged. The vessel was towed to the Bahamas for refit and during August 2009 returned to service after an extensive refit.
Roomfoss Control Systems provided all of the main low voltage switchboards which were installed during the refit process. The new switchboards were designed in sympathy with the old designs but to modern up to date standards. The manufacture was approved by Lloyds.
