In April 2023, Roomfoss Control Systems were tasked with replacing a control panel for Gotts pumping station. This station falls under the management of South Holland Drainage Board and is 1 of 17 keeping the South Holland District flood free. Being originally commissioned in 1995, it was time for an upgrade.
Our project was to design, produce and commission a panel that could take the same blueprint, offer modern controls using both a PLC/HMI set up with the backup hardwired manual function. It would also have improved safety functionality, but familiar interfacing for the engineers onsite, requiring an efficient installation to minimalise time that the pump would be out of service.
Designed and built with the footprint of only 1.2m x 0.4m x1.9m, our control system was set to incorporate control for a 30kw star/delta pump, power factor correction, control redundancy, PLC and HMI, mobile generator changeover functionality, surge protection and Lee Dickens telemetry integration. Alongside this, the panel would also distribute power to the local feeds such as room heating and cooling, UPS backup and Weed screen panel.
